Home to the historic city of Cambridge with its magnificent medieval architecture, stone bridges and cobbled streets, Cambridgeshire is a predominately rural landscape.
The Fens offer glorious sunsets, tranquil water-ways and extensive marshlands. In contrast, amongst the Nene Valley's hills and riversides lie small towns and villages built of warm honey coloured native stone. Nene Valley is home to the historic Nene Valley Railway with its 7 miles of track across open countryside. To the south of Cambridge, Duxford is Europe’s premier aviation museum and has an active airstrip.
Through the heart of the county runs the River Great Ouse passing ancient towns and attractive villages including the historic city of Ely with its stunning Cathedral – Ely Cathedral is particularly attractive to film-makers with its splendid architecture and acoustics. Continuing its journey west, the Ouse reaches the charming market town of Wisbech with its fine collection of Georgian buildings.
To the north of the county lies the cathedral city of Peterborough, the gateway to the Midlands, and one of the country’s grandest estates, the magnificent Burghley House with its painted walls and ceilings.
