With its easy access from London, the county of Bedfordshire occupies a central UK location with good access to London and the Midlands.
It is a county of contrasts with rolling rural landscape at the foot of the magnificent Chilterns, arable farmland, vast expanses of woodland, grand manor houses, vibrant market towns, historic villages, charming thatched cottages and urban centres. The county is interwoven with rivers and waterways and dotted with airfields, a legacy of World War II.
Bedfordshire was a leader in airship production - a testimony to the county’s airship heritage lies on the outskirts of Bedford where two gigantic hangars loom over the countryside. The county is home to other unique filming locations such as the splendid Wrest Park, which has doubled as a French chateau, the Millbrook Proving Ground offering 45 miles of road and track in 700 acres of mixed landscape, the Luton Hoo Estate with its unique Victorian farm buildings, Bryants Lane Quarry which has doubled for a desert landscape, and the uniquely situated Whipsnade Zoo on the roof top of the Dunstable Downs.
